How much oil should be added to the front shock absorber of a motorcycle?
The amount of oil added to the front shock absorber of a motorcycle depends on the type of vehicle. For a typical 125 or 150cc cross-type motorcycle, the oil volume should be around 120-150ml. For larger models such as太子 or street runners, the oil volume can be up to 170ml. For step-through or踏板车, the oil volume should be below 100ml.
It is important to regularly check the hydraulic shock absorber for any leaks and ensure that the shock absorber oil is adequate. Additionally, the shock absorber oil should be replaced every year.
Before replacing the shock absorber oil, follow the sequence to remove the handlebar, front wheel, fender, and brake caliper. Then, unscrew the upper link plate and handlebar fixing bolt, and carefully pull out the handlebar.
For motorcycles with a front fork dust cover, it should be removed along with the front fork cover bolt. Be cautious as the bolt may be compressed by the spring and cause an accident. If the shock absorber is air pressure type, you should press the valve core with your hand before unscrewing the spring pad, spring guide, and front fork spring. Move the handlebar up and down to release the air inside the shock absorber, and then follow the sequence to install all the parts.
Finally, pour out the old shock absorber oil and add the new shock absorber oil as specified. Then, move the handlebar up and down a few times to remove the air in the shock absorber. Finally, assemble all the parts in the correct sequence.
